The Buffalo Stars Junior teams traveled east to Warminster, Pa this past weekend as both the Empire Junior B and CHA Junior C took on the Tri-State Selects in league competition.

The Mass Maple Leafs are off to another fast start this season. Even though the leaves have turned and are just starting to fall, the Maple Leafs are 31 games into their season schedule. Thus far, they carry an 18-11-2 record overall and an impressive 6-1 record in league play.

After a strong showing during the pre-season tournament in which the Jr. Blazer C team went 1-1-1, the gates have slammed shut on goal production from the young team. Coach Ed Herneisen has been working the team hard with on and off ice sessions trying to find the correct mix for the team to start lighting the lamp to get that first victory.

In what turned into a Saturday night thriller, the Blazers Junior B team came out slow and tentative in the first period against the Junior Monarchs and yielded two goals in less than 20 seconds about halfway through the first period. The Blazers found themselves down 2-0 going into the second period. The Blazers came out strong in the second period and started taking control of the game, but had trouble finding the back of the net. They finally scored on a power play goal from Frankie Musick and make it a one goal game at the end of the second. The Blazers again came out strong in the third, but had the same trouble getting that elusive goal to even the game. Finally, with only four minutes to go, Sean Doyle scored and the score was even at two goals apiece. The Blazers got a few opportunities to take the lead, including a crossbar shot from Ahren Lutz, but finished regulation knotted at two. The Blazers out shot the Monarchs 24-9 over the last two periods and continued that trend in overtime. Even though they had the majority of the chances, shots were 5-1 in favor of the Blazers, they could not slip a goal past former Patriots goalie Matty Cray and had to settle for a 2-2 tie. Lost in the dominant tie was the strong play of Andrew Hieber who only made 18 saves, but didn't allow the Monarchs a chance to put the Blazers away.
